Smoke from wildfires in the western U.S. and Canada is expected to impact air quality in the Bay Area on Thursday and Friday. Residents in affected areas should stay alert to news coverage and health warnings related to smoke. Check air quality at fire.airnow.gov and take steps to protect your health from smoke. Learn how at www.baaqmd.gov/wildfiresafety. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect.

Learn about the Vehicle Miles Traveled Data Portal.
The Bay Area is home to more local climate action plans than any other metropolitan region in the U.S. To assist Bay Area local governments in developing and updating the community-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventories that are central to these planning efforts, the Air District has partnered with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to create this Vehicle Miles Traveled Data Portal.
Jurisdictions in the Bay Area will find this site useful for developing and updating their greenhouse gas inventories, supporting climate planning activities, tracking progress, and understanding their community’s transportation emissions within the broader context of the region. The data provided in this portal is consistent with the travel outcomes associated with MTC’s long-range transportation plan.
The Air District and MTC hosted a walkthrough webinar on June 17, 2024, which helpfully explains how to use version 2.0 of the VMT Data Portal. Watch a recording of the VMT Data Portal Walkthrough Webinar.
