Spare the Air Text Alerts

Sign up for Spare the Air Text Alerts to find out when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy in the Bay Area.

To sign up, text the word “START” to the number 817-57. Then you will receive a text asking you to sign up for Spare the Air Alerts.

Spare the Air Alerts notify you when ozone levels or fine particle levels from wildfires or wood burning are forecast to be unhealthy. When fine particle levels are forecast to be unhealthy, it is illegal to burn wood in your fireplace or wood stove.

SMS Alert System Terms of Use: Message frequency will vary. Subscribers are expected to receive an estimated 1-15 texts per month, although potentially more, depending on how weather patterns and natural occurrences influence the number of poor air quality days in the Bay Area.
