Registration for Agricultural Diesel Engines

In 1998, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) identified diesel particulate matter (PM) as a toxic air contaminant (TAC). In order to reduce the public’s exposure to diesel PM, CARB has approved a number of regulatory measures affecting the vast majority of diesel engines operating in California. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) and other local air quality agencies throughout California are required to implement these regulations also known as Airborne Toxic Control Measures (ATCM). The ATCM for Stationary Compression Ignition (CI) Engines includes requirements for diesel-fueled engines used in agricultural operations.

New registrations and renewals are currently unavailable as the Air District transitions to a new online permitting system.

We estimate that the new system will be available by Summer 2017.

New Registrations

If you need to register new equipment, please email us at stating what type of equipment you wish to register. We will contact you when the new system is ready to use.

New equipment requiring registration may be installed and operated provided that:

  • We are notified of new equipment per the above; AND
  • The equipment is registered no later than 60 days after you have been invited to use the new system.

For existing registrations that have expired, when the new system is ready to use, the Air District will be sending you an invitation to create an account in the new system. Once you have created your account, you will be sent a registration renewal invoice which may be paid online.

We will not take enforcement action on expired registrations during this period.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
