Announcement:

The Charge! Program has closed. Please visit the Grants section to view other incentive opportunities at the Air District.

The infographic below displays the results of the Air District’s 2017-2018 Charge! Program, which provides funding for the purchase and installation of new electric vehicle charging stations.

A total of 6.5 million dollars was awarded to projects for the installation of over 2,000 charging stations, which will reduce emissions of CO2 by 9,484 tons per year - equivalent to 968,126 gallons of gasoline. These charging stations will be installed at a variety of facility types: 61% workplace, 29% destination, 4% apartment buildings, 3% transit parking, and 3% along transportation corridors.

The next Charge! grant cycle will re-open in late 2018.

2018 Charge Program Results

The Air District is pleased to announce the Charge! Program, an incentive program that offers grant funding to help offset a portion of the cost of purchasing and installing new publicly available electric vehicle, or EV, charging stations within the Air District’s jurisdiction.

The goal of the Charge! Program is to rapidly expand access to EV charging stations to help achieve the Bay Area’s EV-adoption goals of 110,000 EVs by 2020, 247,000 EVs by 2025, and 90 percent of the overall vehicle fleet by 2050. As of December 2016, there are approximately 83,000 EVs registered to Bay Area drivers.

This program is funded through the Air District’s Transportation Fund for Clean Air Regional Fund, which provides grants to improve air quality within the nine-county Bay Area by reducing emissions of criteria pollutants from on-road vehicles.

An initial allocation of $5 million is available, and funding will be awarded to qualifying projects on a first-come, first-served basis.
