Southern Alameda

Resource Team

The Southern Alameda County Spare the Air Resource Team works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion by promoting clean air commute alternatives – anything but driving alone to work! – and by educating drivers about how they can save money, save gas, and help Spare the Air by reducing passenger vehicle idling.

The Idle Free Bay Area project raises awareness about passenger vehicle idling (leaving the vehicle’s engine running while parked or not in use) and encourages drivers to turn off the engine when they are waiting more than 30 seconds. Idling is harmful to air quality and public health. This project promotes Idle Free with movie ads and outreach at community events. The Team has partnered with the Safe Routes to Schools program to educate youth about bicycle safety. The Team provided helmets and bike locks for bike festivals in Fremont, Union City, Newark, and Hayward.

This year, the Team is working on several interesting projects: hosting a webinar about dockless bikeshare and e-scooter program implementation, conducting an employer commute program benchmarking survey, and developing a transportation resources page for Green Business Certification applicants in Alameda County.

Past projects include Shuttles 101, a workshop for city staff, and a webinar tailored to the needs and interests of employers, chambers, TMAs, and others seeking to learn more about how to establish a shuttle program.

If you would like to join in the Team's efforts to promote commute alternatives, reduce traffic congestion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, please contact Stephanie Anderson at 510-246-8840 ext. 301 or .
