San Jose

Resource Team

The San Jose Green Vision Resource Team is a joint effort by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the City of San Jose to implement projects that affect air quality at a local level.

The City has a “mode split” goal of 60 percent of trips to be taken via transit, bicycle, walking, or carpool, and no more than 40 percent by single occupancy vehicle by 2040.

The Resource Team partnered with the City to launch the Green Trip Champions, an employee engagement program with city employees, and the Green Commute Challenge, a friendly interdepartmental challenge to encourage the use of clean air commute alternatives – anything but driving alone to work!

The Green Trip Champions program trains employees to serve as ambassadors for the City’s alternative transportation program, creating a pool of experts to act as local resources for information about the City’s clean air commute options, expanding the capacity of Transportation Department staff.

The Green Trip Champions program has been very successful. The Resource Team’s next goal is to help large businesses in San Jose – those with more than 500 employees – launch Champions programs in their companies.

To learn more about the Champions program, watch the webinar, Commute Champions-Harnessing Employee Enthusiasm for Clean and Green Commuting, on the Spare the Air Bay Area YouTube channel.

The Team also partners with the City to work toward the goal of zero waste by reducing unsolicited mail through the Stop Junk Mail San Jose campaign. Stop Junk Mail San Jose encourages those who live and work in San Jose to sign up with CatalogChoice.org to opt out of receiving unsolicited mail. Catalog Choice provides data showing the environmental impact of opting-out: trees and water saved, and CO2 and solid waste avoided.
