Marin-Sonoma Air Quality Resource Team
The Marin-Sonoma Air Quality Resource Team and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District are supporting efforts to reduce traffic congestion at schools. Through grants to the Sonoma County Climate Protection Campaign in 2006 and 2007, the Air Quality Resource Team supported student campaigns at Analy and Windsor High Schools to reduce solo driving and resulting greenhouse gas emissions. Those efforts are continuing through the 2008 school year. The team was instrumental in securing grant funding for the Sonoma County Bike Coalition’s Safe Routes to Schools program, which will expand traffic reduction efforts at schools in Sonoma County. The Air Quality Resource Team is planning a seminar on Safe Routes to Schools to aid other communities as they develop Safe Routes to Schools programs in the near future. The team also sponsored Sonoma County Bike to Work Day efforts in May 2008. In an effort to help reduce employer-related traffic congestion, the Air Quality Resource Team is developing a campaign to engage employers throughout Marin and Sonoma Counties, helping them develop employee commute plans. If you would like to join the team in its efforts to reduce traffic and increase safety at schools, please call Stephanie Anderson at (415) 975-2955 x5.
