The Great Race for Clean Air is a friendly competition between employers to encourage employees to use commute alternatives to solo driving such as ridesharing, carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking or riding transit. These commute alternatives provide significant CO2 greenhouse gas emissions savings over solo driving!
Why participate in the Great Race for Clean Air? The Great Race for Clean Air is a great way for employers to demonstrate concern for their employees and the environment.
All employees who log their commute online are entered into weekly random drawings for prizes such as gift cards from Starbuck’s and Best Buy. At the end of the Great Race, employers with the highest CO2 savings (that is, the average CO2 saved per employee in your organization) and employers with the highest employee participation are the winners! Winners will be declared in each county and Bay Area-wide.
In the Bay Area on-road traffic accounts for approximately 40 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions. During the warm months of August and September we are at highest risk for exceeding national ozone standards on Spare the Air Days.
At the same time, gas prices tend to be at their peak! So encourage your employees to use alternatives that will save them money, ease traffic congestion and stress, and help Spare the Air.
Participation is easy. Register here.
Once your company is registered, employees simply log their commute activity on an online diary which is provided by 511.org. That’s it! The Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the local Air Quality Resource Team will provide you with helpful information on commute alternatives and one-on-one support if you request it. You will also receive sample emails to use in weekly eblasts to your employees.
